學(xué)校歷史
奧本大學(xué)由南衛(wèi)理公會教宗創(chuàng)立，是一所私立教會學(xué)校，但現(xiàn)在已于教會沒有任何關(guān)系。學(xué)校經(jīng)歷了多次改名：校名初為“東阿拉巴馬男子學(xué)院（East Alabama Male College）”，1872年依據(jù)莫里爾法案，接受了聯(lián)邦贈地，更名為“阿拉巴馬農(nóng)工大學(xué)（Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama）”，主要專注于文科與農(nóng)學(xué)（Arts & Agriculture）；1899年，受時任校長布龍博士農(nóng)工文理并重的思想影響，學(xué)校更名為“阿拉巴馬理工學(xué)校（Alabama Polytechnic Institute ）”；隨著學(xué)校課程及專業(yè)門類的增多，上世紀(jì)60年代，學(xué)校更名為現(xiàn)今的“奧本大學(xué)”，以適應(yīng)學(xué)校已經(jīng)成為一所綜合性大學(xué)的現(xiàn)實。

奧本大學(xué)校園占地面積1843英畝（約7.45平方公里），學(xué)校內(nèi)建筑呈網(wǎng)格線分布，院系分布十分明顯——校園北部是大部分工程學(xué)院的樓房所在地、法學(xué)院、學(xué)校古老的行政管理大樓也在這里；校園中部是文理學(xué)院（美術(shù)系除外）、教育學(xué)院的所在地；校園南部則是理學(xué)院大本營，美術(shù)系也位于這里。
區(qū)分：奧本大學(xué)蒙哥馬利分校
奧本大學(xué)蒙哥馬利分校（Auburn University at Montgomery ，縮寫AUM）原屬奧本大學(xué)的一所分校，成立于1967年，位于阿拉巴馬最大城市蒙哥馬利市郊區(qū)。學(xué)校全日制學(xué)生只有5000多人，另有1萬多的成教學(xué)生。自2007年起，這所分校開始以“Auburn Montgomery”的名號力推自己的牌子。這所學(xué)校的實力遠(yuǎn)遜奧本大學(xué)本部，請注意區(qū)分。

奧本大學(xué)的建筑、藥學(xué)、獸醫(yī)科學(xué)、工程、林學(xué)、商科都非常強(qiáng)，優(yōu)異建筑學(xué)最為強(qiáng)勢。。按照美國建筑學(xué)雜志“設(shè)計智慧（DesignIntelligence）”出版的2013年的美國最佳建筑與設(shè)計學(xué)院排名，奧本大學(xué)的工業(yè)設(shè)計、室內(nèi)設(shè)計、景觀設(shè)計以及本科的建筑學(xué)專業(yè)都排名全美前十，其中室內(nèi)設(shè)計更是排名美國第一。
奧本大學(xué)61%的學(xué)生來自阿拉巴馬州，國際學(xué)生比例不足1%，但這并不意味著奧本大學(xué)排斥國際學(xué)生，情況剛好相反。對國際學(xué)生而言，奧本大學(xué)的申請仍然是比較容易的，近幾年的競爭并不激烈，留學(xué)性價比尤高。

基本要求
奧本大學(xué)研究生院（Graduate School）規(guī)定的基本申請條件如下：
正規(guī)大學(xué)本科畢業(yè)并取得學(xué)士學(xué)位
GPA要求：本科GPA要求最好不低于2.75分；研究生階段的GPA——如有的話——最好不要低于3.0分
語言要求：TOEFL要求不低于79分，單項要求不低于16分；IELTS要求不低于6.5分，無單項要求。部分專業(yè)的要求可能更高，但所有專業(yè)的語言要求均不得低于上述要求
GRE要求：絕大部分專業(yè)均需要遞交GRE成績，僅英語專業(yè)博士項目要求遞交GRE Subject成績，商科專業(yè)要求遞交GMAT成績

奧本大學(xué)所有項目的申請均由奧本大學(xué)招生辦公室統(tǒng)一管理，要求的具體申請材料如下：

資金證明：申請時可無需遞交，但錄取后必需遞交；國際學(xué)生要求準(zhǔn)備至少$38,454的資金證明（2014-15學(xué)年）

費用與獎學(xué)金
奧本大學(xué)研究生院不向國際學(xué)生提供任何獎學(xué)金。因此，該校的獎學(xué)金只能由學(xué)生所申請的系所或項目組里提供，其形式仍然有TA、RA和Fellowship為主。學(xué)生在申請時應(yīng)主動與系里的導(dǎo)師或招生辦聯(lián)系，以期獲得由導(dǎo)師或系里提供的RA、TA獎學(xué)金。該校獎學(xué)金形式均為Merit-based，無需單獨申請，自動隨Offer發(fā)放。一般而言，PhD學(xué)生的獲獎幾率要遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)大于碩士學(xué)生獲得的幾率。
該校的TA和RA獎學(xué)金可以讓國際學(xué)生只需繳納與阿拉巴馬州內(nèi)學(xué)生同等的學(xué)費費率，此外，還可以獲得一個按月發(fā)放的生活補助。另需要注意的是，該校TA獎學(xué)金要求國際學(xué)生的TOEFL口語不得低于23分。
